All About Wi-Fi and where to connect for free: a concept and a project SwissMedia
www.freespot.ch |
Freespot is a concept created by a group of companies and individuals: all SwissMedia members, under the auspices of SwissMedia. This group works to develop wireless networks within Switzerland. Its purpose is to promote free wireless access to the Internet. The idea is essentially a partnership with local authorities to develop free public WiFi hotspots for Internet users.
It is desirable that the new WIFI tool become something that works for everyone and everyone has access. It does not have to be linked to a search of profit and with WIFI it can be free. Wireless networks can become a tool used by citizens and is a new area of freedom. This is the goal pursued SwissMedia's concept Freespot.
We also emphasize that SwissMedia Freespot desires to represent individuals or companies willing to invest in the project thereby making their voices heard by authorities, whether local, cantonal or federal.
The web site Freespot is accessed from most outside public areas as well as some private access points equipped with free Internet. On the site you can also find all the information needed to install wireless equipment (either as user or as a relay), FAQs on important issues (technical, security, hardware, networking, architecture, etc.).
In addition the site offers a section Forum and a possibility of including a new online free WIFI zone of which we are not aware.
From the 2nd half of 2008, Freespot became international. Several European countries adopted the Freespot concept.
