This work of some 250 pages meets the needs of the entire Swiss population, since all definitions and explanations are in English. English is the source of the majority of terms and abbreviations but the words are conveniently translated into French and German. The Dictionary is accompanied by a CD-ROM (8 cm) containing the texts in their entirety. Funded by partners in the field of information technology and communication, the dictionary also received substantial help from the Canton of Vaud. At a time when the Swiss political institutions have taken the responsibility to support the introduction of Internet in schools across the country, the dictionary is a timely tool. It completes the understanding of both hardware and software by providing the missing link in understanding of new information technologies and communication. We sincerely hope that it will also be welcomed by the political class, by school authorities as well as the general public.
