It examines national applications and delivers patents to protect and administer the official records in Switzerland. The Institute also deals with questions related to copyrights and is the supervisory authority for managing companies of collective rights. The Institute advises the federal authorities in relation to intellectual property and represents Switzerland in this field abroad. Finally, the Institute provides research in the field of trademarks and provides information on patents and technologies. It also provides training on issues of intellectual property.
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations. Its mission is to develop a balanced and accessible record of international intellectual property, which rewards creativity, stimulates innovation and contributes to economic development while safeguarding the public interest. WIPO was created in 1967 by the WIPO Convention, where member countries gave it the task of promoting the protection of intellectual property throughout the world through cooperation among countries and in collaboration with other international organizations. It is headquartered in Geneva (Switzerland). |
